~~Casa Pérez Alemán is an elegant three-storey building, rebuilt almost entirely in 1916, and one of the first residential buildings to be erected on Avenida A, which at that time was known as Carrera de Caldas.
Cities during the Colonial period spread out from a central plaza, in our case, from the Plaza de la Independencia. Therefore, during that era, new houses were built out towards the sea. Little by little, young families built their residences on what would later become one of the main avenues in San Felipe.
In 1904, when there were still only three buildings in existence on Carrera de Caldas, the Diaz-Alemán family used stone, wood and tiles to build a two-storey residence in which they installed two cannons, one on the Eastern and one on the Western end of the property. After the owner became a widow, she remarried and built this magnificent home using masonry stone, wood and a corrugated iron roof, bequeathing us with what is today, the Pérez Alemán residence, from which the current property
takes its name.
Located on Avenida A between 8th and 9th streets, Casa Pérez Alemán is situated close to Plaza Herrera and Iglesia San José. The building project will include an elevator, a retail unit on the ground floor, and five apartments, two of which will have private balconies.
