Baluarte de San Felipe is a large-scale master plan for the rehabilitation of 7 strategically located buildings at the entrance of Casco Antiguo, Panama City’s desirable historic quarter. It’s a pioneering effort courtesy of Compañía Inmobiliaria San Felipe, a successful property development company focusing on restoration projects in Casco Antiguo that was founded in 1995.
The buildings are located at the entrance of 3 picturesque streets: Bajada de Jaén, Bajada del Ñopo and Bajada de Salsipuedes. These streets were called "Bajadas" or “descents” because they ran down from the neighborhood of Santa Ana towards the famous "Playa del Gallinero" (Gallinero Beach), which had a pier that enabled travel to other parts of the country by boat or schooner.
Besides their outstanding individual features, the properties within the Baluarte de San Felipe master plan are impeccably located and overlook the picturesque Panama Bay and Parque Centenario. Another noteworthy aspect is that several of the buildings that make up the complex are located in close proximity to part of the old wall of Panama City, which also includes the impressive Baluarte de Barlovento, an important military point dating back to Panama’s colonial era.
