La Bajada del Ñopo, located on Calle 12 East in Casco Antiguo, Panama City, is a street rich in history and cultural significance. Its name honors José López, known as “El Ñopo,” a Spaniard with fair skin and blond hair who was well known in the community for his distinctive appearance and character. The term “Ñopo” was commonly used at the time to describe someone with light-colored, curly hair—a description that suited him perfectly.
José López was recognized not only for his appearance but also as the owner of the area’s only grocery store, making him an essential figure within the local community. His store served as a gathering place for residents, and his presence left a lasting mark on the neighborhood’s history.
Our project, Antigua Casa López, is strategically located on this historic street. This development not only pays tribute to José López but also seeks to revitalize and restore the surrounding area. Antigua Casa López preserves the legacy of “El Ñopo” while offering residents a tangible connection to the neighborhood’s rich heritage. Blending tradition with modern living, the project stands as a cornerstone in the continued revitalization and evolution of Casco Antiguo, Panama City.
The project features 25 residential apartments, ranging in size from 36 to 106 square meters (387–1,141 sq ft), with one-, two-, and three-bedroom layouts. It also includes three commercial spaces, ranging from 45 to 69 square meters (484–743 sq ft).
