Plazuela de Alfaro rises beside a recovered section of the old colonial wall and the setting of the Baluarte de Barlovento, one of the five bastions of the defensive system built when the city was moved to San Felipe after the attack on Panamá La Vieja. Today, this heritage legacy becomes the protagonist of a unique commercial gallery in Casco Antiguo.

Construction begins on the wall and defensive system of the new city of Panama in San Felipe.

The city grows beyond the wall and the Baluarte de Barlovento becomes partially hidden among new buildings.
